Tips

  • Before you make any move have good look at the game. Asses the situation in which the cards are. Pre-plan your moves that lead you to victory. Try to imagine and foresee any possible moves you make that might affect the course the game.

  • Before you perform any move, find the Aces. Also look carefully for the lower cards among the cards or columns.

  • Try to keep the empty cells not occupied. Remember that even vacant columns can be used for storage, so always try to reach a situation where you have a column or more vacant. A free column is actually better than a free blank cell, because you can place a full series of cards in a single vacant column, as where, a vacant cell can hold one card at a time.

  • If there are two or more cards in a row at the bottom of the column, you should move the entire sequence to another column which has a possible match card. This applied ONLY if it won't block the lower cards that have not been used yet.

  • At the end of each move, FreeCell will automatically transfer a card which is dispensable to the house cell. A card is redundant when there are no more cards are left on the deck, which are either lower or have a different colour.

  • It is not possible in a FreeCell game to do endless actions and moves without them effecting the situation at a later stage of the game. Each transfer or movement will affect your next move in the game; so carefully plan each move and think ahead of your next step.

  • When you play FreeCell in Windows the game comes with an abundance of instructions and animations. When there's just one legal move left to play, the menu bar will blink in order to warn you about that.

  • Although you should avoid this situation, when you only have one legal move left, observe each column carefully and look for the cards you need in order to save the situation. If you come to the conclusion that all is lost and exhausted all possibilities - then you've lost.

  • If you've lost the game I can only recommend - start over! It's not only challenging and gratifying; it will also enhance your gaming capabilities and enrich your experience of the game.
